LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! It truly is beyond words for me. I loved the illustrations. Some of the two page illustrations took me back to the first time I read Miss Rumphius, my favorite picture book of all time.

My favorite has to be the two pages depicting "All the world is old and new." The 'new' younger tree in the wagon...beside the 'old' mature adult...the 'old' mature tree that the 'new' younger generation is climbing and swinging from. Such a beatiful blend of old and new.

I have shared this book with my sixth graders as an example of how poetry can be published. Some students have now expressed a desire to publish their poetry in a picture book form like All the World. Thank you, Liz Garton Scanlon and Marla Frazee!

I am very late in mentioning how much I enjoyed this book. The rythmn makes it read almost like a lullaby. Both the text and illustrations are full of the small details children notice (a shell, flowers, the perfect tree branch for climbing). And the pictures ... the pictures are just lovely. Beautiful, peaceful, vibrant, childlike, wonderful. All of these adjectives describe this book!

I would agree with Barbara ... this book is not about ALL the world. That said, it didn't take enough away from the book for me to love it any less.

I would recommend this book without ANY reservation. Thank you for the advance copy.

"All the World" is a book that can be read and enjoyed by children at various age levels. I can see how it would prompt discussions and vivid writings/drawings in my Kindergarten classroom and invite exploration throughout elementary school. The drawings captured my attention and the simple text allowed me to add my own thoughts to what was on the page. This is a book that would be a welcome addition to your classroom!

There are so many good things to say about All the World for both the text AND the illustrations. A very sweet story with pictures to match, I felt as if I were strolling along the California coast-lines as I read through the sand-swept looking pages. Others who have checked this book out have pointed out the enticing illustrations. One teacher mentioned that the story had an, “Interesting take on what children can relate to as “All the World”’.

"All the World" is a book of beautiful illustrations using simple words to describe the world around us. The illustrations are amazing! I have to say, I knew I was going to love this book just by opening the box it arrived in. Inside the box, under the book, was a seashell and beach glass. What a wonderful way to market this book. I hope when this book is in bookstores it is packaged in the same fashion. I give this book a 5 out of 5!

P.S. Not only is this book perfect for elementary libraries and classrooms, but what a wonderful gift to give someone expecting a child.

I am a K-4 librarian and each year I do a mock Caldecott study with my
first graders. Well, my students LOVED Marla Frazee's book "A Couple of
Boys Have the Best week ever." They are still checking it out, now that
they are in 2nd grade - all 3 copies are either checked out or on hold.
We wrote Marla a nice email, and she mailed back hand-signed cards for all
80 first graders to keep! (Along with a nice letter.) So needless to say,
we are HUGE Marla Frazee fans.

The reviewer's ARC of "All the World" arrived in my mailbox beautifully
packaged, true to the handmade style of Marla Frazee. Sand colored paper
pieces cradled a beautiful shell and bits of blue sea glass, placed next
to the ARC. The book, however, stands well on its own, even beside the
beautiful things that willed me to love it. :)

Simple rhymes create an rhythmic flow through the book ("Spreading
shadows, setting sun, crickets, curtains, day is done, a fire takes away
the chill, all the world can hold quite still"). This book would be best
shared intimately, perhaps with a child at bedtime, though the gorgeous
illustrations are large enough to be shared with a whole group easily.
Frazee alternates between beautiful full page spreads of countrysides,
seashores, and piers at sunset, and more intimate moments between families
- a cooking mom, a family gathered around a piano, children rock
collecting. The effect is "peace to the soul."

Teachers could use this in the classroom, especially paired with
nonfiction books that explore children around the world like "Children
Just Like Me" (Kindersley) or "Wake Up World!" (Hollyer). Also it would
be interesting to have students create rhymes in the style of the book and
end with an "All the world" connection in their poem.

I highly recommend this picture book, giving it a 4 out of 5.

This treasure was worth the wait! I love the sentiment that the world is right here where ever we are. The words convey this simply and effectively. The illustrations are magnificent! From the blue VW bus to the mission bells I am completely taken in. Now I want nothing more than to play in the tide pools of Pacific Grove. Thanks for a delightful book. I give it a 5!

The language and the flow of words in this book is beautiful. It makes a wonderful read-aloud for younger children, with plenty of rhyme and rhythm. The illustrations. on the other hand, provide interest for older listeners and/or readers. The palette of colors Marla Frazee chose is unique and wonderful; I like the pattern of smaller vignettes followed by a large and colorful double page spread -- I started looking forward to what was coming next as I read. That being said, I was a little disappointed that other regions around the world weren't somehow protrayed. Overall, a beautiful addition to a picture book collection, one to recommend for sure. A solid 4.0.

All the World lends itself to noting small details, following certain objects and people through a day, and going back and looking again..all good strategies for readers. The title was a bit disapponting at first (it's not really ALL the world), but as it says on the book jacket,"All the world is right where you are. Now"

I will be able to use this with my middle school students as we study illutrator's techniques and also to notice what details are important in a story line.
This would also be a good choice for a quiet reading time with a younger child.

Cute book. I am already imagining the many discussions the story and illustrations could inspire with young students. Perhaps a field trip to the playground to discover the small things that make us a part of all the world. The words are so simple and so beautifully illustrated. I look forward to sharing a real copy with students.
